How to read this page

Obligations, not cash out the door. These are award actions: contracts signed, grants awarded, delivery orders placed. They commit the government to pay, but the cash may move later. Daily cash in and out is tracked separately on The Numbers from the Treasury Daily Statement.

Dates, not times. USAspending records the action date of each award but does not publish the time of day, so this breakdown is per date, not per hour.

Why the date lags. Agencies report on rolling schedules, so the newest one or two days are always incomplete. We publish the most recent day with full reporting, typically about two days behind the current date.

Ranked by dollars alone. The top 20 are the 20 largest obligations that day, with no filtering by agency or recipient. That keeps the ranking strictly nonpartisan.
